Statement From Mayor Rawlings-Blake Regarding The Federal Government’s Looming “Fiscal Cliff”
BALTIMORE, MD. (November 15, 2012) – Today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake issued the following statement regarding the “fiscal cliff” deadline that is approaching:
“Today, I traveled to Washington, D.C. with many of my fellow mayors to meet with congressional leaders and administration officials to discuss the ‘fiscal cliff’ and its impact on American cities. The potential combination of tax increases on the poor and middle class, along with drastic cuts in federal aid, would have a significant impact on Baltimore and the region.
In meetings with members of Baltimore’s congressional delegation, I urged them to reach across the aisle to Republicans to find a solution as soon as possible.
In a meeting with Vice President Biden, my fellow mayors and I urged the Obama administration to not only redouble efforts to avoid the fiscal cliff, but to renew their promise to increase investment in America’s infrastructure.
