Huge Soccer Ratings in Baltimore

Baltimore doesn’t have a professional outdoor soccer team, but Charm City is emerging as one of the top soccer markets in the United States. Recently it was reported that Baltimore was the third best United States media market for English Premier League viewership. And, when the USA topped Ghana in Monday’s World Cup game, the Baltimore market had the sixth best ratings among all other markets in the country.

South Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium has also hosted many successful international soccer events over the last few years, including a sellout for the CONCACAF Gold Cup Quarterfinals in the summer of 2013.

The former Thornton’s Pub property at 1538 E. Clement St. in Locust Point is undergoing an extensive renovation. The building has been gutted and the exterior brick is getting reconstructed. SouthBMore.com was told by multiple neighbors in the immediate area that the property would become a house.

SouthBMore.com will keep you posted on the future of the liquor license that was used by Thornton’s. Several liquor licenses have been transferred from Locust Point bars to bigger locations at new developments in the past including the former LP Docks license being transferred to McHenry Row’s World of Beer.

Under Armour Opens Store in Chicago

Under Armour plans to open a new store in Chicago’s most famous downtown shopping district, The Magnificent Mile. The Baltimore Business Journal is reporting that they are planning a Brand House at 600 N. Michigan Ave. This will be Under Armour’s fourth Brand House, joining Baltimore, Tyson’s Corner and NYC.  From the article:

“We are excited to open our first Brand House in Chicago on Michigan Avenue, one of the world’s most iconic and dynamic retail destinations,” Susie McCabe, Under Armour’s senior vice president of global retail, said in a statement. “The Under Armour Chicago Brand House will be our largest to date and will provide us with a new opportunity to expand upon our mission to make all athletes better, while delivering an elevated and personalized shopping experience.”

Family Dollar Shuts Their Doors

Family Dollar is now closed at Southside Marketplace after the company decided to close 370 of their stores around the country. SouthBMore.com reported in April that the location in South Baltimore would be closing.

The 7,000 square foot space will be split into two suites and Phenix Salon Suites will be taking over one of them (4,000 square feet). Phenix Salon Suites offers suite leases to salon professionals looking to start their own business.

The remaining 3,000 square feet of space could be a candidate for one of the two Class B restaurant liquor licenses the shopping center was approved for earlier this year.
