Travel Channel Coming to Cross Street Market Tomorrow

The Travel Channel will be coming to South Baltimore on Friday, December 7th to film at the Cross Street Market in Federal Hill.  They are filming a show about Federal Hill vs. Capitol Hill, which is a revitalized neighborhood straight down 295 in Washington, DC.  Get down to the market and let people now how great the area is! And, while you are there, grab something at one of the many merchants and support local business.

Ryleighs Oyster Opens a Suburban Location

It’s becoming quite common for popular Federal Hill bars to parlay their downtown success into a second location in the suburbs. Recently we’ve seen Mothers open an always crowded second location in Arnold, as well as MaGerks, Sean Bolans (formerly at the Brewer’s Cask location), and the Ropewalk group open up in Bel Air.  Pratt Street Ale House is also about to open a second location in Columbia where Pub Dog also has a second restaurant. News came on Tuesday from the Baltimore Business Journal that now Ryleighs will be opening their second location in Timonium at the former location of Gibby’s a 22 West Padonia Rd.  From the article:

“We definitely felt like there was a familiarity with our brand,” McComas said. “And we truly felt that the area was under-served.”

After getting the second bar off the ground, McComas said he hopes to open a third Ryleigh’s within 18 months.

CrossFit Federal Hill Opens

South Baltimore is a fitness crazy area that recently added a new workout locale in Knockout Fitness earlier this fall. Now the area is gaining its second new facility as CrossFit Federal Hill opens at 1220 Key Hwy. today.  CrossFit is a popular new workout that has even launched its own “CrossFit Games” which airs on ESPN.  CrossFit Federal Hill offers workouts Monday-Friday at 530am, 630am, noon, 5pm, 6pm, and 7pm. Sessions are also available on Saturday at 8am, 9am, 10am, and 11am.  Visit their website for more info.

Betamore Opens Their Campus at 1111 Light Street

A three-person team of Mike Brenner, Sean Lane and Greg Cangialosi has official launched Betamore, which is a new co-working and incubator space described as a “gym for nerds” by founder Brenner.  From an article in Technically Baltimore:

The new coworking space offers dedicated (full-time) and community (part-time) memberships for $400 per month per employee and $200 per month, respectively. In addition, individual classes and multi-class courses will be held inside a 50-person classroom within the facility. The classroom is bounded by several sliding chalkboards, which separate it from the part-time and full-time coworking spaces. (Another sliding chalkboard runs down the middle of the classroom in order to split the larger room into two, 25-person classrooms.) Classes cost between $30 and $200, while courses comprising six classes or more will cost between $900 and $2,000 and will be Betamore-certified using Mozilla’s Open Badges platform.

Check the article for more pictures of their new space, which was built in the space once used for this Cross Street Market Gallery.

Susquehanna Bank Opens on Key Highway

Susquehanna Bank is set to open a large new branch at 215 Key Hwy. across the street from the Science Center in Federal Hill.  They take over a large, previously vacant space and have painted the outside gray with two large neon blue and green Susquehanna Bank signs.  The area is also about to undergo a large streetscape improvement as the interception of Key Hwy. and Light St. will be redeveloped in 2013.
