ORIOLES OPTION RHP JAKE ARRIETA TO TRIPLE-A NORFOLK

The Orioles announced after today’s game that they have optioned RHP JAKE ARRIETA to Triple-A Norfolk.

 Arrieta is 3-9 with a 6.13 ERA (101.1IP, 69ER) in 18 starts for the Orioles this season.  He lasted 3.2 innings in each of his last two starts, allowing a total of 11 earned runs in those 7.1 innings pitched.

ORIOLES OPTION RHP CHRIS TILLMAN TO DOUBLE-A BOWIE

The Orioles announced after today’s game that they have optioned RHP CHRIS TILLMAN to Double-A Bowie.

Tillman won today’s game, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over a career-high 8.1 innings pitches after being recalled this morning.  He has gone 8-8 with a 3.63 ERA (89.1IP, 36ER), 30 walks and 92 strikeouts in 16 games (15 starts) for Triple-A Norfolk this season.  He went 4-1 with a 2.51 ERA (28.2IP, 8ER) in five June starts for the Tides, recording seven or more strikeouts in four of those outings.

ORIOLES RECALL INF JOE MAHONEY FROM TRIPLE-A NORFOLK

The Orioles today announced that they have recalled INF JOE MAHONEY from Triple-A Norfolk.

Mahoney has batted .257/.312/.357 with 14 doubles, five home runs and 38 RBI in 84 games with the Tides this season.  Originally selected by the Orioles in the sixth round of the 2007 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Richmond, Mahoney will be making his major league debut.

He will wear jersey number 54.

    My guess is he’ll make one start in Bowie and be right back in BMore.  Don’t want him to miss a start during the All-Star break…

      I hope he can be consistent… we are running out of pitchers.  Tillman, Chen and Hammel would give us three, hopefully between Britton, Gonzalez, Steve Johnson, and the demoted guys, someone can get us throughout he season with decent pitching.  Love the potential of Britton and Johnson, I guess we’ll see what they can do soon.
